The Freedom series is deeply rooted in Edgar Medina’s personal experience as a Mexican immigrant and his journey facing preexisting stereotypes. A mixed media on canvas, this work begins with influences of his Mexican heritage. Drawing back to a mix of vibrant colors in his culture, Medina uses vibrant colors in abstract forms of patterns and textiles familiar as a child. Creating a linear pattern with layers of materials symbolizes the mixing of cultural ideas and how the outcome can be much more beautiful. Completing the work, you will see bold statements to prompt social conversations around the positive outcome of blending cultures.

Inspired by images seen in urban cities and years of change, his use of mixed media creates a sense of years of life through multiple layers of color and texture. You can find mixed media elements in the series, including personal photography and vintage papers such as vintage piano player scrolls. The bold typography defines his intent, and through the work, you can find other words of wisdom to inspire a positive outlook on life.

ARISE

Edgar Medina’s series Arise allows you the opportunity to see the world through his artistic eye. Through his abstract lens, each painting reveals his picture of different horizon lines he has seen. Collecting snapshots through his travels, he creates his view capturing striking colors and movement in high and low peaks. Medina works literally with his hands, creating his signature style, which is shown in this series through his bold strokes and movement down the canvas. Landscapes in the Arise series include city-scapes like Houston, forests from Georgia, and desert scenes in Utah.

TRANSLUCENT

Through a deep curiosity and study of the world’s natural beauty, Edgar Medina brings small elements of nature to life on a large scale in his series Translucent. In his mixed-media series, you will see the use of texture and color to create visually rich abstract work. When viewing his art, Medina encourages each person to explore the details and see where in nature the work takes them. In the collection of work, you can often see the symbolism of light and water blended with natural stone elements.
