ABOUT THE ARTIST
Edgar Medina is a Mexican-born American and Houston-based contemporary abstract artist whose work explores cultural heritage, movement, memory, and emotional resonance. He creates large-scale paintings defined by layered surfaces, bold texture, expressive color, and a constant process of building, removing, and reworking until every mark belongs.
Travel, photography, nature, and modern design continue to shape his visual language. Medina often works from fragments of experience, bringing together color, light, texture, and movement to create paintings that exist between abstraction and memory.
A self-taught artist, Medina continues to expand his practice through museum study, workshops, art classes, and artist residencies. His studies in Rome, Venice, and Mérida, Mexico, along with a two-month residency in Mexico City, have influenced his approach to composition, materials, and contemporary painting.
His current series, After the Horizon, explores what remains after a journey. The paintings are built from remembered landscapes, water, light, color, and movement without depicting one specific destination.
Medina’s work has been commissioned and installed at JW Marriott Houston Downtown, Texas Children’s Hospital, Memorial Hermann, Memorial Hermann Woodlands, The Highlight at Houston Center, Westin Medical Center, Sarofim Pavilion at Texas Medical Center, and the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU.
He works with private collectors, interior designers, corporate clients, healthcare institutions, and hospitality spaces nationwide. Medina is also known for live painting performances and community art projects that use creativity as a way to connect people.
